When having a heart attack, seconds count. The CentraCare Heart & Vascular Center team is ready 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, to open blocked arteries. In fact, we treat more heart attacks than most Twin Cities hospitals.

Why choose us?

STEMI-SC Program

We worked with area hospitals to build a protocol to quickly transfer patients from across Minnesota to our cath labs, saving thousands of lives. One phone call from a partner hospital sets in motion a step-by-step protocol that results in the systematic treatment and transfer of patients. Since 2004, 4,000 patients have participated in the program with their one-year survival rates being 94%.

State-of-the-Art Catheterization (Cath) Labs

Our five cath labs are among the busiest in Minnesota with cardiologists performing:

  • Coronary angiography
  • Balloon angioplasty
  • Stenting, including the use of the Absorb, a fully dissolving stent
  • Intravascular ultrasound
  • Fractional flow reserve
  • Angiojet
  • Rotoblator
  • Atrial septal defect/patent foramen ovale procedures
  • Atherectomy

Research

We actively take part in research studies. If you tried standard care without success, our research program gives you access to new drugs and treatments.

Quality

Mission: Lifeline(R) STEMI Get with the Guidelines®-Resuscitation Silver Award

The American Heart Association recognized the CentraCare Heart & Vascular Center for ensuring prompt, evidence-based care for heart attack patients — beginning with the initial 9-1-1 call, then restoring blood flow to the heart and finally discharge. The award recognizes 85 percent or higher composite compliance to all Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center quality achievement indicators with 75% or higher compliance using aggregated 2017 data on all Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center quality measures to improve care for STEMI patients.

We also received the American Heart Association Get with the Guidelines®-Resuscitation Gold Plus Award for implementing measures that improved quality of care and outcomes of adults 18+ and newborns/neonates who suffer cardiac arrests within St. Cloud Hospital. The hospital achieved 85% or higher compliance with these measures for two calendar years.

2015 Silver Performance Award Beacon Award for Excellence

For the third year in a row, the CentraCare Heart & Vascular Center has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2018, one of only 203 hospitals nationwide to receive this honor. This award recognizes a hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies the reaching of aggressive goals for using the most current, science-based guidelines.

CentraCare Heart & Vascular Center has demonstrated sustained achievement in ACTION Registry® for eight consecutive quarters and met high performance standards for specific performance measures to receive this 2018 award.

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) recognized our Telemetry Unit with the Gold Level Beacon Award and our Cardiac Care Unit with the Silver Level Beacon Award. The award recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards.
