Your chance as a woman to develop heart disease is one in three. You have the power to change this. The Women @ Heart Project helps women lower their risk for heart disease. In this program, you will meet one-on-one with a nurse practitioner, dietitian and exercise physiologist. The goal is to prevent heart disease through changes in lifestyle.

Causes of heart disease are:

  • Smoking
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Little or no exercise
  • Age
  • Obesity
  • High blood sugar
  • Stress
  • Family history

Though you can’t change your age or family history, you can impact the other risk factors. If you have one or more of these risk factors, we can help you improve your heart health.

We have two comprehensive plans to fit your budget:

Plan One - Cost: $150.00

  • 30-minute consult with a nurse practitioner
  • 30-minute consult with a dietitian
  • 30-minute consult with an exercise physiologist
  • Heart exam
  • Blood tests: total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL and blood sugar
  • Blood pressure
  • Assessment of blood flow to your legs and feet
  • Body fat analysis
  • Body mass index
  • Metabolic syndrome assessment
  • 10-year risk for heart disease results

Plan Two - Cost: $350.00

Same as above, plus a cardiac calcium scoring test to measure the amount of hardened plaque in your arteries.

Both plans include one-on-one consults with experts:

  • Heart care nurse practitioner: A nurse practitioner will look at your test results and figure out your 10-year risk for heart disease. She then will help you design a personalized plan to stop or slow the progression of heart disease.
  • Heart nutrition expert: Are you tired of diets? Would you like to lower your cholesterol through food rather than medicine? A dietitian will analyze your diet and work with you to make meals that you and your family will love for their taste and health benefits.
  • Exercise physiologist: Have you exercised in the past without success? An exercise physiologist will plan an exercise program that will improve your health and fit into your busy day.

It is important for you to talk with your doctor about your risk for heart disease. We will send him or her your results with your OK. Most health plans do not cover the cost of preventive screenings. You may be able to use a health savings account or flexible spending account to pay for the cost of your screening.
