Vascular Ultrasound

A vascular ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce a picture or graph of blood as it flows through a blood vessel. No radiation or X-rays are necessary.

A vascular ultrasound procedure is performed to help evaluate blood flow through the major arteries and veins of the arms, legs, abdomen and neck. It can also reveal blood clots in these vessels.

Before your vascular ultrasound procedure, you should have nothing to eat or drink for 8 hours if your exam involves the abdomen.

Several images and measurements are taken during the procedure. The procedure takes 30-60 minutes depending on the area being examined.

A radiologist will send the results of the procedure to your doctor who will discuss them with you.

Providing safe, quality patient care is our highest priority. To help ensure quality and safety, we ask that you do not bring young children with you to your appointments, as children are not allowed to accompany you during Imaging procedures. Staff is unable to monitor your child in your absence.
