Dialysis takes over your kidneys’ job when they can no longer filter your blood. You have several options for dialysis at CentraCare, which works to make treatment easier and more convenient to fit into your life.

Types of Dialysis

Your doctor may recommend:

  • Hemodialysis – Connects your blood vessels to a machine that filters your blood over a period of three to four hours
  • Peritoneal dialysis – Uses the inner lining of your belly as a natural blood filter
  • Automated peritoneal dialysis – Uses a machine to deliver and drain dialysate cleansing fluid at night while you sleep
  • Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis – Hooks up bags to your belly to provide the dialysate fluid and drain the waste a few times a day
  • Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) – Provides slow, gentle dialysis 24 hours a day
