Comprehensive Care
If your child has a cleft lip or cleft palate, they’ll receive care from a certified cleft palate team based on the latest research. A clinical nurse specialist will oversee the care plan, which may include:
- Surgery to repair a cleft palate or treat a head or face injury
- Ear, nose and throat care for conditions such as ear infections, nasal or breathing problems, and speech and swallowing difficulties
- Dental care and braces to make sure your child’s teeth grow in straight
- Dietitian support to help children with feeding difficulties get enough nutrition
- Hearing tests and treatments
- Speech therapy so your child can speak clearly and swallow food safely
- Genetic counseling and testing to find the possible cause of a facial condition your child was born with
- Referrals to local resources, such as family support groups, financial assistance and services for children with special needs
