Our team of experienced preceptors provide the framework for our residency training program. Learn more about the people that make St. Cloud Hospital an exciting and rewarding place to complete a PGY1 pharmacy residency.​​

Mike Akers, PharmD Mike Akers, PharmD, Transitions of Care Pharmacist

Education: Doctor of Pharmacy, University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (2011)

Residency: PGY1, University of Minnesota – Essential Health (Ambulatory Care), Duluth MN (2012)

Practice Interests: Transitions of care, heart failure, teaching, research

Rotations Offered: Transitions of care

Dr. Akers provides clinical pharmacy services in transitions of care. He also oversees a five-week patient care APPE rotation and is a primary preceptor for a PGY-1 ambulatory care pharmacy residency program through the University of Minnesota’s College of Pharmacy. Dr. Aker’s exceptional precepting abilities have been recognized in recent years. In 2015 and in 2016, he was a nominee for the North Dakota preceptor of the year award. In 2016, he received the Preceptor of the Year Award, (Parliament of Distinction Award) from University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy for his preceptorship of residents within the PGY-1 Ambulatory Care residency program. In 2017, he received the Preceptor of the Year from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy for his preceptorship of APPE students. Outside of work, Mike enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and taking on do-it-yourself projects at home.

Patti provides clinical services to oncology, orthopedics, neurology and surgical units. Patti’s exceptional precepting skills and dedication to the pharmacy residency program earned her the inaugural preceptor of the year award from our first class of residents. In her free time, Patti enjoys time on the river, hiking, traveling and following Minnesota Golden Gopher football.

Dr. Clark provides clinical pharmacy services to patients in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care units (adult, pediatric, and neonatal). She also serves as the pharmacist member of several St. Cloud Hospital Critical Care Committees. Dr. Clark has a passion for the caring for the complex critical care patient and teaching. Outside of work, Jennifer enjoys traveling, gardening and spending time with her husband and three children.

Dr. Greenlee provides clinical pharmacy service to medical patients requiring general and progressive care. Outside of work, Jesse enjoys watching movies, trying new restaurants and traveling.

Dr. Hammond practices in the emergency medicine, pediatric, and cardiac care areas. She finds working with students and residents in the emergency department particularly rewarding. When not at work, Victoria enjoys crocheting, playing piano at church and visiting friends.

Dr. Huiras regularly provides clinical pharmacy service to emergency medicine and critically ill patients (medical, surgical, cardiac, pediatric and neonatal).  Over his pharmacy career, Dr. Huiras has precepted numerous APPE students, PGY1 and PGY2 residents and has a passion for mentoring, teaching, and writing. He currently serves as Director of the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program at St. Cloud Hospital. Paul is a member of the St. Cloud Hospital P&T Committee and serves locally as the MSHP Regional Secretary for Heartland Chapter (2018-2019). Outside of work, Paul enjoys cooking, traveling, wine tasting, hunting and fishing.

Dr. Lind is a clinical ambulatory pharmacist for CentraCare Health River Campus, Internal Medicine Clinic. Dr. Lind began providing care for patients at CentraCare Health – Paynesville in 2013. In 2016, she transitioned her role to the Internal Medicine clinic in St. Cloud to assist with the continued development and expansion of the ambulatory pharmacy department. Other past pharmacy experiences include community pharmacy, long-term care, and oncology pharmacy. Currently, she is working to develop comprehensive medication management services within the Internal Medicine clinic. Jessica is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Pharmacists’ Association. Her pharmacy interests include ambulatory pharmacy practice development and rural pharmacy practice.

Dr. Mahowald is the Director of Hospital Pharmacy Services. He serves on a variety of multi-disciplinary committees and strives to continually advance pharmacy practice at St. Cloud Hospital. Outside of work, Jim enjoys spending time with family, golfing, coaching, and traveling.

Lance McNab, PharmDLance McNab, PharmD, Clinical Coordinator – Inpatient Pharmacy

Practice Interests: Hemodynamic and renal replacement support in critically ill patients, toxicology and overdose management, performance improvement

Dr. McNab is the coordinator of clinical pharmacy services, overseeing the clinical activities of our growing department. Dr. McNab is a pharmacy representative on multiple hospital committees and plays an integral role in electronic medical record maintenance and order set development. Prior to assuming this role, Dr. McNab spent many years as a clinical pharmacist specializing in critical care medicine. He is currently a preceptor for APPE students and residents rotating though pharmacy management and enjoys teaching about the role of leaders in improving patient care. Outside of work, Lance enjoys boating, fishing, golf, and escaping the cold weather during the winter.  

Sara Olson, PharmDSara Olson, PharmD, BCCCP, Clinical Pharmacist

Practice Interests: Critical care, pediatrics

Rotations Offered: Critical Care

Dr. Olson has over 15 years of hospital pharmacy experience. She regularly provides clinical pharmacy services to patients in the intensive care unit (adult, pediatric, and neonatal). She also provides pharmacy services to cardiac patients as well as surgery patients by staffing the operating room pharmacy satellite. Outside of work Sara enjoys traveling, reading and working out.

Dr. Ringwald provides clinical pharmacy services for critically ill adult, pediatric and neonatal patients and emergency medicine. She is the preceptor for the pediatric rotation of the PGY-1 residency program and also precepts APPE pharmacy students. Outside of work, Kaia enjoys time with family, going to the cabin, running and biking.

Dr. Shoop provides clinical services in the emergency department, medical units, surgical units and oncology floors. When not at work, Samantha enjoys gardening, traveling, reading and camping.

Dr. Seil provides clinical pharmacy services to medical/surgical units. As the department’s Pharmacist Educator, Dr. Seil is heavily involved in the training of all new pharmacists. He uses technology to simulate staffing and order verification scenarios. This allow trainees to gain experience in a low-stakes environment prior to online training. Dr. Seil’s practice experience, affinity for technology and his welcoming demeanor make him a very effective pharmacist educator. Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, investing and playing video and board games.

Joy Ward, PharmD, BCPSJoy Ward, PharmD, BCPS, Clinical Pharmacist

Dr. Ward provides clinical pharmacy services to a variety of areas of the hospital, including the Emergency Trauma Center, oncology, orthopedics, neurology and surgical units. She serves on the Antibiotic Stewardship committee and precepts students and residents. While not at work Joy enjoys spending time with her family and friends as well as yoga, cooking and gardening.

Practice Interests: Critical Care, quality improvement, informatics, electrolyte replacement

Rotations Offered: Cardiology

Dr. Wieland provides clinical pharmacy services to a variety of areas of the hospital, including the Emergency Trauma Center, neonatal ICU, pediatric ICU and cardiac care units. He precepts students and residents and has a passion for managing critically ill patients. When not at work, Tony enjoys traveling and spending time at the lake with family.

Dr. Wigton co-chairs the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at St. Cloud Hospital and is involved with initiatives to improve antimicrobial stewardship throughout the hospital. She is also a member of several other St. Cloud Hospital committees, such as the P&T Committee and the Infection Prevention and Control Committee. Dr. Wigton serves locally as the MSHP Regional President for the Heartland Chapter (2018-2019). Outside of work, Ann enjoys spending time with family, reading, traveling and biking.
