Student Volunteering

We believe in the power of students to make a difference in their communities. Our student volunteer program offers meaningful opportunities for young individuals to gain valuable experience, develop new skills, and contribute to patient care and support services.

Whether you’re exploring a future in healthcare or looking for a way to give back, volunteering at CentraCare provides a rewarding and impactful experience.

CentraCare Welcomes Student Volunteers Ages 14 and Older

Why should I volunteer at CentraCare?

  • Explore interests in healthcare, retail and other areas
  • Make a difference in people’s lives
  • Develop new skills
  • Make new friends
  • Interact with professionals (healthcare and other sectors)
  • Practice patient and guest interaction
  • Accumulate tracked service hours
  • Earn letters of recommendation
  • Gain eligibility for scholarships
  • Have fun!

As an active volunteer, you will gain experience to be able to answer these questions:

  1. Do I enjoy contributing to the healthcare environment?
  2. Should I explore the next steps toward a healthcare profession?
  3. What skills and areas do I need to improve?

Successful student volunteers are:

  • Dependable: Student volunteers commit to a weekly 3-4 hour shift and a minimum service commitment. Patients and guests rely on volunteers to be dependable. A dependable volunteer attends scheduled shifts, plans ahead, stays in communication and makes up missed shifts. Students should have a plan for reliable transportation.
  • Curious: CentraCare volunteers serve in many areas and student volunteers can explore a variety of interests. Share your strong desire to learn with CentraCare.
  • Welcoming: CentraCare volunteers provide an important perspective and play a key role in providing positive patient and guest experiences, a component of this is sharing a warm and welcoming attitude with each guest, patient, employee and volunteer.

Do I want to volunteer in the healthcare environment?

Volunteering in healthcare provides incomparable experience for students considering a healthcare profession and this experience will translate into other fields as well.
