CentraCare Health to begin providing eye services May 15

Published in Media Releases Author: CentraCare

This May CentraCare Health will begin providing ophthalmology and optometry services at 2000 23rd Street South in Sartell. CentraCare Eye Clinic will serve both adults and children. The clinic will provide medical and surgical eye care, treating a broad range of conditions such as cataracts, diabetes, glaucoma and macular degeneration. An optometrist on staff will provide routine eye exams. CentraCare Optical, an onsite retail shop, will sell glasses, contact lenses and related products.

Shannon Cabrera, M.D., Michael Eichler, M.D., and Cindy Gellner, O.D. (optometrist), will join CentraCare Health and start seeing patients May 15, 2017. Dr. Cabrera is Central Minnesota’s only fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist.

“CentraCare looks forward to adding eye care to its array of services,” said David Tilstra, MD, president of CentraCare Clinic. “Eyes are the “window of health,” and they can be the first indication of other health problems, so it makes sense to have an eye clinic as part of our continuum of care.”

Patients at the new clinic will benefit from integrated and seamless care, as well as a single electronic medical record that will ease communication between ophthalmologists, optometrists and other CentraCare specialists.

“By joining CentraCare, we can enhance quality and efficiency,” said Dr. Cabrera. “We’ll also have access to the latest technology, which is important in this rapidly changing field, especially within the realm of advanced cataract surgery. In addition, with today’s technology, lens implants and laser vision correction can decrease dependence on or eliminate glasses altogether.”
