St. Cloud Hospital Behavioral Health Clinic Offers Healing Trauma Group

Published in Media Releases Author: CentraCare

St. Cloud, Minn. – Research provides compelling evidence that childhood physical and sexual abuse leaves victims with feelings of loss, betrayal, and lack of skills required for successful everyday living.

St. Cloud Hospital Behavioral Health Services offers a Healing Trauma Group for adult women.

Trauma is about loss of connection — to ourselves, to our bodies, to our families and other important people in our lives, and the world around us. It also may include symptoms such as:

  • Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): intrusive, frightening memories or nightmares of traumatic events from the past, hyper-vigilance, sense of detachment/numbing or intense feelings that feel overwhelming and cues in the environment that ‘trigger’ aspects of past traumatic experiences.
  • Depression and thoughts of suicide.
  • Difficulty setting safe limits with others (e.g., saying no to people) and relationship problems.
  • Poor body image and low self-esteem.
  • Unhealthy behaviors, such as alcohol, drugs, self-harm or eating problems. These behaviors are often used to try to hide painful emotions related to the abuse.

This group is appropriate if you are experiencing some of these symptoms, have been diagnosed with PTSD or have a history of childhood abuse. The group meets weekly for a series of 16 weeks. Participants will: learn effective emotional and interpersonal regulation skills, reduce PTSD symptoms, and develop the capacity to integrate a positive, integrated sense of self and appreciation for their unique potential.
