MONTICELLO, Minn. — A $35,000 in-kind gift from Hoglund Bus Co., Inc., Monticello, “has opened up a new world” for residents of St. Benedict’s Senior Community – Monticello.

The 14-passenger bus will enable those who require wheelchair assistance to safely and comfortably participate in off-campus excursions.

The bus’ low-floor technology completely eliminates the traditional wheelchair lift and the need for steps to enter or exit the vehicle. This will accommodate individuals who otherwise would not be able to participate in outings.

“The bus “is bringing independence and living options to life,” said Sandy Haggerty, Director of St. Benedict’s Senior Community – Monticello. ”There have been residents who have never been able to enjoy an outing and they are still in shock and awe. It's about enjoying the simple pleasures that most of us take for granted: beautiful countryside scenery and enjoying the farm animals and fall leaves along the way.”

SBSC and Hoglund have partnered since the Monticello campus opened in 1999.

Hoglund CEO & President Tom Klein donated the bus in honor of his wife, Holly Hoglund Klein, who passed away tragically and unexpectedly last spring. Holly enjoyed spending time with her late grandmother, Muriel Kramer, who had lived at SBSC.
