Rejuvenate your skin

Published in Skin Care Author: Jane Fuchs, Advanced Practice Esthetician, Midsota MedSpa

Microdermabrasion is one of the most popular skin rejuvenation treatments available. More than 700,000 microdermabrasion procedures were performed in 2018 in the U.S.

Microdermabrasion is a simple, quick and painless professional treatment with no downtime. Dull lifeless skin will appear much brighter even after one treatment. Much like brushing your teeth to remove plaque, microdermabrasion helps to gently exfoliate a few of the top layers of skin, leaving it looking and feeling soft and smooth. Although the face is the most common area for microdermabrasion, any skin area, including neck, chest, back and hands may be treated.

Microdermabrasion can treat:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Age spots
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Acne
  • Acne scars
  • Enlarged and clogged pores

What is the procedure like?
A licensed aesthetician will perform the procedure using a combination of fine crystals and vacuum suction to remove dead skin cells. The vacuum pressure and speed are adjusted depending on the sensitivity and tolerance of the skin. A moisturizer customized for your skin needs will be applied and followed with a sunscreen so you can go about your day.

The microdermabrasion process facilitates the growth of new cells to improve the overall texture, elasticity, color and appearance of your skin. This treatment works well for all skin types. A series of three to six treatments is recommended to achieve the best possible results.

A microdermabrasion treatment can be completed in about an hour. With no recovery time needed, you can resume routine activities right away.
