5 Tips to Stay Healthy This Summer

Published in Heart & Vascular, For the Health of It, Healthy Eating Tips

Minnesota summers are packed with festivals, parades and celebrations galore. Here are some ways you can enjoy the fun while staying healthy.

1. Beach and Boat Days

Instead of chips, cheesy popcorn, pretzels or other salty snacks, try packing your bag with dried fruit, unsalted nuts, seeds or low sugar granola bars for days spent on the beach or boat. And water is a must, too!

2. Potlucks

Know that there will be at least one healthful selection by bringing a fruit or veggie tray to share.

3. Outdoor Physical Activity

Try to plan moderate to intense exercise in the early morning or evening so you won’t have to battle the sun and heat.

4. Keep Hydrated

  • Keep a water bottle on hand and drink more frequently throughout the day.
  • Eat foods with high water content, such as melon, peaches, tomatoes and cucumber.

5. Enjoy Seasonal Produce for Optimal Flavor
