Securely Store and Conveniently Share Your COVID-19 Vaccination Status

As you travel locally or abroad, you may encounter businesses, events or activities that require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result to gain entry.

Over time, a paper copy of your record can easily get lost or damaged. Of course, you could always take a picture of your card, both front and back, and store it on your phone.

Over the past year, many health care organizations and government agencies have partnered with tech companies to find digital solutions for storing health records.

At CentraCare, the MyChart app allows you to share your COVID-19 testing and vaccination information quickly, easily and securely. Simply go to the MyChart menu and search “COVID-19.” From there, you can generate a QR code or download a copy of your vaccination/test record. For easy access, you can place this information on your pre-login screen, your MyChart home page or even store in places like Apple Wallet.

Currently, the United States does not have a standard platform for storing electronic COVID-19 documentation. However, many states created apps for this purpose. Last September, Minnesota launched an app called Docket.

In Minnesota, all vaccine providers are required to upload vaccination information to the Minnesota Immunization Information Connection (MIIC) within 24 hours. MIIC combines all immunizations a person has received into a single record, even if they were given by different health care providers in Minnesota. Docket then enables you to securely view your records and conveniently share them (print, email, text) with schools, daycares or others requesting the information.

Regardless of your preference for a paper or digital record of your vaccination status, before doing any travel or activities, be sure to research the form of documentation your destination accepts. Often this information can be found on websites, but a phone call may be needed to ensure you have a fun and carefree experience!
