APP Residency

Purpose, Mission and Goals

Founded in 2019, the CentraCare Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Residency program provides post-graduate education and support to assist in the transition from academics to practice. It’s mission is to equip new graduate APPs with the necessary knowledge and skill to be confident, effective and efficient practitioners to improve the health of the people in Central Minnesota. The program aims to prepare new graduate APPs to:

  • Empower APP residents to achieve improved outcomes while obtaining the clinical knowledge and expertise needed to practice at the top of license.
  • Immerse APP residents in the community to instill a deep appreciation for the needs of the people served by their department or site.
  • Improve the productivity and job satisfaction of new APP residents and contribute to improved patient access, workforce retention and employee engagement.
  • Facilitate smooth transition from academics to proficient provider.

CentraCare defines "new graduate" as: any Nurse Practitioner (CNP), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or Physician Assistant (PA) with less than 12 months of experience after graduation.
