On Pins and Needles: The Healing Power of Acupuncture

Meg Franklin of Clear Lake loves spending time with family and friends, and her three kids keep her very busy. But for the past 10 years, Meg’s right shoulder has been in pain. She tried everything from physical therapy to cortisone shots. But the pain just kept coming back, so Meg learned to live with it. Then she saw an ad for acupuncture treatments at CentraCare and decided to give it a try.

Today, Meg’s shoulder is pain free.

Meg worked with CentraCare Acupuncture once a week for about two months. Through her visits, she found lasting relief from her shoulder pain. She’s regaining all the mobility and strength she had before the pain, which means she can work out and lift weights again.

“Go! Don’t wait,” Meg commented. “I was anxious about acupuncture at first because I didn’t know what to expect. But the acupuncture team was wonderful. They make the whole treatment process relaxing.”

Meg compared her individual appointments to a professional massage. She relaxed on a table while tiny needles were placed around her head, hands, legs and feet. The experience can be extremely soothing. Many patients fall asleep during the treatments.

CentraCare also offers group acupuncture sessions. These treatments use points on the arms, hands and head so there’s no need to undress. The group sessions are perfect for those who are curious about acupuncture and want to try it at a more accessible price point.
