Children Admitted to St. Cloud Hospital have a New Member on their Health Care Team

St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud Hospital has launched Central Minnesota’s only Pediatric Hospital Medicine Program. Pediatric hospitalists are doctors who only work in hospitals. They care for children at St. Cloud Hospital’s birthing center and pediatric unit. Pediatric hospitalists help children ranging in age from newborns up to 18 with:

  • Infectious illnesses
  • Breathing issues such as pneumonia, croup and RSV
  • Long-term illnesses such as diabetes and asthma
  • Common childhood illnesses such as flu and dehydration
  • Recovery from injuries or surgeries
  • Newborn care
  • Other health care needs

“The children of Central Minnesota now have a pediatrician in St. Cloud Hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, providing them with better continuity of care and access to care,” said Kathleen Kulus, MD, director of the St. Cloud Hospital Pediatric Hospital Medicine Program.

Studies show that hospitalist programs improve quality of care. Pediatric hospitalists are readily available to family members and staff. They work with and coordinate a child’s care with other members of the health care team, including a child’s primary care doctor.
