Published in Weight Management, Media Releases

CentraCare – Monticello Hospital received accreditation as a national bariatric center of excellence by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).

“This accreditation validates that surgeons and teams are providing the highest level of care to patients having weight loss surgery in Monticello,” said John Hering, MD, president and chief medical officer of CentraCare – Monticello. “We are proud to serve our patients and provide this type of care close to home.”

To earn MBSAQIP accreditation, CentraCare – Monticello met the national quality standards for delivering safe, high-quality care to metabolic and bariatric patients. The program underwent a thorough review of:

  • Surgeon and staff training and experience to ensure a multidisciplinary team focus on outcomes and long-term success
  • Operating rooms, facilities and technology
  • Care plans from before the surgery through the years after, always ensuring patient dignity and respect

Metabolic and bariatric surgery has proven to be effective in the reduction of comorbid conditions related to obesity. There has never been a better time to pursue bariatric surgery. When done in combination with weight loss medications, the odds of keeping obesity at bay have greatly improved.

Monticello hospital joins St. Cloud Hospital in achieving this recognition for CentraCare’s weight loss surgery program.
