Ensure your prescription medications are working for you

Published in Pharmacy, For the Health of It

We live in a time where there are now countless medications to help with a variety of conditions and illnesses. With all of these options can often come potential concerns.

Whether you get your medications over-the-counter, by prescription, or both — it can be difficult to know how your medications work best, what side effects to be aware of and if there are others that may work better for you.

To help further assist patients with medication-related concerns, there is a service available at CentraCare Health that goes in-depth on this complicated subject. Medication Therapy Management (MTM) is an appointment with a specially trained pharmacist who will help you get the most out of your medications and meet your health care goals.

At your appointment, you will meet one-on-one with a licensed MTM pharmacist who will provide an in-depth review of all your medications including prescription medicines, herbal and dietary supplements and other over-the-counter products. The MTM pharmacist will work directly with your health care provider to make any adjustments needed to help you get the most out of your medications.

MTM pharmacists will:

  • Help you understand why you are taking each of your medications
  • Describe how each medication works
  • Review possible drug interactions
  • Discuss how to avoid or manage medication side effects
  • Determine the best time of day to take each of your medications
  • Answer questions related to the cost of your medications
  • Give you an up-to-date medication list

How much does it cost?

CentraCare Health will work with your insurance company to provide this service to you. MTM helps improve your quality of care and avoid unnecessary health care costs including serious drug interactions.
