  • Medical Interests: In the future it is my hope to work in a variety of exotic and exciting low-resource areas where medical care is most needed. • Personal Interests: Short walks on the Mississippi. A mild, 100-pushups in the evening. Creative gravy boat designs. My 3 kids (with one on the way!). And, since I'm a 2nd-year resident, my main personal interest is watching Netflix.
  • Why St. Cloud? Why not, I ask you? Why not St. Cloud? Setting aside the grand vistas, the plentiful public pools, the impossibility of turning left on a red light, and the medians (oh, the medians), it has a wealth of activities for kids and families. Also, the close proximity to Minneapolis is a major bonus. As for the residency, I love the St. Cloud program for its kind and personably faculty, our plentiful exposure to OB, and the fact that we're the only residents in the hospital. Mostly, though, I'd have to say it's because of the unique, local Scottish diner, McDonalds.

St. Cloud is a great city to live in, big enough to have a multitude of activities and small enough to feel comfortable and like home. I want practice in the Midwest and am happy to be back home in Minnesota.

  • Medical Interests: Family Medicine, including Rural Medicine and Obstetrics
  • Personal Interests: Playing and watching sports, reading, hiking, singing and listening to music, travel, cooking, fishing and spending time with my wife and pets.
  • Why St. Cloud? St. Cloud is a wonderful place to learn family medicine. It is a referral center for much of central and northern Minnesota, so the hospital is large enough to see a wide variety of different pathologies. Yet also, the city is small enough to where you get to feel how a family medicine doctor can make a large impact on a community. The faculty and residents are great to work with and the program has several community outreach programs.

The faculty and staff show passion for their work, both in treating patients and teaching medicine. The faculty members here are really invested in their residents succeeding in every way. It just felt right from the get go. St. Cloud is ideally located, not too far from the Twin Cities, with plenty of places to explore all around St. Cloud, which I plan to take advantage of.

  • Why St. Cloud? I grew up in Cold Spring and before I left for medical school I had heard about the family medicine residency in St. Cloud and it was always in the back of my mind. So, in my fourth year of medical school, I decided to do a rotation in St. Cloud and was very impressed by how much the faculty and residents loved teaching and learning from each other. Everyone was very nice. I knew this would be the perfect place because they are focused on training rural family medicine physicians. It also didn't hurt that it is so close to home.

I was surprised by how large the hospital is; there is certainly no shortage of great learning experiences, especially since we are the only residents at the hospital. Being located in Central Minnesota makes it an ideal place to learn how to care for rural communities as well. I am confident that whatever route I choose in family medicine, this residency program will leave me well-prepared.
