Tips for Healthy Super Bowl Eating

Published in For the Health of It, Healthy Eating Tips Author: Clara Vancura, RDN, LD

Don’t let Super Bowl LVIII leave you feeling XXL.

Eating healthy at any party can be tough. But Super Bowl parties can be especially difficult. It might feel like you need a strong defense — like the 1985 Chicago Bears — to avoid eating and drinking too much.

Coming out ahead at the end requires a game plan. Here are some tips for eating well at parties:

  • Eat a healthy meal before the party. If you arrive hungry, you'll be more likely to overeat.
  • Be disciplined and commit to eating fruits and vegetables. And if you're not sure that your party will have enough of these, then offer to bring the fruit and vegetable trays.
  • Watch your alcohol and soda intake. Both often contain a surprising amount of calories.
  • Don't let food dominate the event. Spend time talking with others and catching up with friends.
  • If possible, avoid hanging out by the food. Find a location where it takes more work to snack or pour yourself a drink.

Also, if you’re looking for a healthy take on some traditional snack foods — try some of the following. These have all been taken from our healthy recipes at CentraCare.com. To be included, each recipe has been reviewed by one of our registered dietitians and aims to be part of a healthy diet.
