The Child Advocacy Center (CAC) provides a range of information for professionals working with abused children.
Statistics
Local Level:
- Stearns County Human Services received 2,170 reports of child maltreatment in 2018.
- In the same year, Benton County received 763 reports of child maltreatment.
State Level:
- In 2018, Child Protection agencies in Minnesota received 86,060 reports of child maltreatment. This is a 2.3% increase in one year (compared to 2017).
- Of the reports received, 43.5% were screened in for an assessment/investigation.
- The completed assessments/investigations involved 5,549 victims of child sexual abuse, 11,569 victims of physical abuse, and 23,623 victims of neglect.
National Level:
- 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused by age 18.
- There are 42 million survivors of child sexual abuse in the United States.
- 90% of abused children know their abuser.
