Giving Birth at CentraCare

Your Partner on the Path to Parenthood

This is an exciting time for you. We want to help make it a uniquely personal experience. With a variety of options to fit your style and personality, we can tailor services to your needs. We partner with you, so you know what to expect along the way. We are equipped to deliver outstanding care at every stage of pregnancy, and it is our mission to make labor and delivery as safe as possible, preserving the health of mother and child throughout the process.

Pregnancy Planning

If you’re having trouble getting pregnant, our Reproductive Medicine program can help. We also host free reproductive seminars that cover common fertility problems and detail lifestyle changes you can make to increase your chances of getting pregnant. If you’re concerned that you have risk factors that may produce a child with a genetic condition, our Genetic Counseling program will help you better understand your risks.

Specialized Care

If you think you may be at risk for a problem with your pregnancy, we have a special clinic available to address your concerns. A high-risk pregnancy clinic provides a full range of services including consults with maternal-fetal medicine doctors, advanced ultrasound and genetic counseling. For problems that come up after birth, we have a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that’s equipped to provide specialized care for the tiniest and sickest of infants.

Provider and Location Options

CentraCare offers numerous options for where you can deliver your baby. You will determine the exact location based on the provider you prefer and the aspects of care that are important to you, such as whether you seek midwife care or want to be near a Level III neonatal intensive care unit.

Preferences for Birth

We know that you’d like to personalize your birth experience. To make sure this happens, we encourage you to fill out a Preferences for Your Birth Experience form (PDF) and bring it with you at the time of birth.

Educate Yourself About the Process

A great way to ensure your birth experience is a rewarding one is to take a childbirth class . There also are classes tailored to grandparents, siblings and those planning to adopt children. Additional education is provided through our Gift of Motherhood booklet.

Natural Approach

We strive to keep your experience as intimate as possible by providing opportunities for family bonding. We follow baby-friendly guidelines and encourage skin-to-skin care after delivery and in the operating room following a Cesarean birth. Depending on where you give birth, you’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of water birth, aromatherapy, acupuncture, acupressure, massage and healing touch, and physical therapy.

Breastfeeding Support

We provide classes, support groups and lactation consultants to ensure that you’re breastfeeding properly and to answer any questions you might have.

Education Along the Way

In addition to personalized care, you can access interactive programs covering a range of topics — from eating right or staying fit during pregnancy to starting new family traditions or sharing baby’s milestones. We offer this through social sites, e-newsletters and other resources.
